The Nutters Club Radio Interview - From Prison to Purpose

The Nutters Club Radio Interview - From Prison to Purpose
Kyle Macdonald, Sean Selby, and Hamish Williams at the Newstalk ZB studio.

I spent over a decade behind bars. But that’s not where the story ends.

Last month, I had the privilege of joining the Nutters Club on Newstalk ZB to share a piece of my journey.

From entering prison at the age of 20, to confronting my past, and learning how to live with accountability and purpose.

It wasn’t easy to talk about. But it mattered.

What stood out most were the callers.

People who hadn’t been through what I’ve been through, but who could connect with my story.

A story that holds pain, hope, and change — all at once.

The Turning Point

For me, things began to shift when I started studying from inside.

It was more than just picking up books. It was about reshaping how I saw myself.

I moved from thinking of myself as just a prisoner to seeing myself as a student.

As someone with potential. Someone who could grow.

That shift in identity changed everything.

Giving Back

I’m not proud of the harm I caused. But I am proud of who I’ve become.

And I’m committed now to giving back.

To helping others believe in themselves - even if they’ve made mistakes.

Even if they’ve been written off.

Everyone deserves the chance to grow.
